half bound Having the spine and the corners bound with the same material and the sides in another.
half title The leaf preceding the title page which bears the title (in full or abbreviated).
hard grain roan Sheepskin finished with a deep pin head roan.
head The top edge of the page or spine (the opposite being the tail).
headband A narrow band made of coloured silk threads wound about a short piece of hemp, cane or leather and fixed to the head and tail of the spine.

hinges (inside and outside) The inside hinges are the channels lying between the two halves of the endpapers where the body is fixed to the spine. The outside hinges are the joints on either edge of the spine.
